Training for Health Practitioners

Following discussion with Glasgow City Health & Care Partnership, Families Outside is pleased to announce it will be funded over twelve months to deliver training on the impact of imprisonment on children and families to 400 Community Justice and Children & Families practitioners in Glasgow City, Inverclyde, Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire, West Dunbartonshire, and East Dunbartonshire. The training will show practitioners how they can provide support to these vulnerable families and where they fit in to the overall support structure. Practitioners expected to take part in this new training package include Health visitors; Health support workers; Criminal Justice Social Work; Children & Families Social Work; Youth workers; and teaching staff.

As part of the training package, Families Outside will develop and deliver training for trainers along with associated resources and ensure participants are aware of the support available to them and to the families they support in their area, including the national Families Outside Support & Information Helpline and local Family Support Coordinators.

Along with development of new materials, Families Outside will also introduce existing materials to the participants, including the National Framework to Support Families Affected by the Criminal Justice System, Toolkit on Loss & Bereavement through imprisonment, booklets on the roles of health professionals and schools in supporting families affected by imprisonment, and Good Practice Guidance for Support to Families Affected by Imprisonment.
