Substance Use in Scottish Prisons – A Needs Assessment
Families Outside have recently been contacted by Figure 8 Consultancy Services Ltd, regarding research they are undertaking, which looks at the health and social care needs of people who live in Scottish Prisons who use substances (alcohol, drugs and/or tobacco).
As a family member or significant other of a person who uses substances and who currently lives in (or has recently lived in) a Scottish Prison, your views are very important and Figure 8 would like to chat with you.
Please find more information on how you can get involved below.
Outline of the project
The Scottish Government have asked Figure 8 to look at lots of information about the types of help and support that are available to people who use substances whilst in Scottish Prisons to see what works well, what could be better, and to identify how things can be improved in the future. They are also looking at the needs of individuals as they move out of prison back into the community.
Figure 8 would like to gather your views, as a family member or significant other, on the above!
Can I take part?
- Do you have a family member or significant other who uses substances and who currently lives in (or who has been released in last 12 month) a Scottish Prison?
If the answer is ‘yes’, Figure 8 would like to speak with you!
What will be involved in taking part?
- Taking part will involve speaking with the a researcher from Figure 8 who has worked with families impacted by imprisonment and/or lived experience.
- The conversation can either be over the phone or by video link– whichever you would prefer.
- If you agree to take part, Beth Cairns, Researcher, will be in touch with you to arrange a time and date that works for you (it can be during the day or early evening).
What are the benefits of taking part?
We hope that this will give you the opportunity to have your voice heard and to share your experiences in a positive way. At this stage, we do not know what the outcome of the research will be. However, we hope that the research will inform how services are delivered so that people who uses substances and their families get the support they need.
How will my participation be acknowledged?
To thank you for taking the time to speak to Figure 8, they will send you a £10 shopping voucher by email, following your interview.
Who should I contact to take part or to ask any questions?
