Prisoners Week – Nov 2012 “Making It At Last”

18 – 25 November 2012

Who could claim they had made it? It has to be sad if there are no new challenges and life is all figured out! Making It At Last isn’t about that.

It’s about reaching goals and turning a corner. Not necessarily all the way, but noting achievement and distance travelled. Then having something to celebrate! Confidence builds which inspires self-belief and the impetus that says ‘yes, change is possible.’ Maintaining the momentum, even with a knockback or two or three, means that we move nearer towards the kind of person we want to be and the communities we want to have.

Stories that speak of prisoners’ journeys prove inspirational, especially for those caught in the revolving door of re-offending and who find it hard to resettle in the community.

Prisoners Week provides an opportunity to remember all in our communities who are affected by crime and imprisonment – prisoners and their families, the victims of crime and those who work within the criminal justice system.

Prisoners Week is an initiative of the Churches that aims to stimulate discussion, highlight concerns and share hope.

At www.PrisonersWeekScotland.org.uk you’ll find Prisoners Week information, a calendar of local events, contact details of organisations that offer help and advice, reflections, worship resources and discussion ideas. There are Chaplains in every prison offering spiritual care and the means by which people can explore and practice faith.

You are invited to the National Launch Service for Prisoners Week at 6.30pm on Monday 19th November in Dunblane Cathedral when Moderator Albert Bogle and Cardinal Keith O’Brien will be speaking.

Come along to the Prisoners Week Question Time:  7.00pm in the Visits Room, HMP Perth. To attend this event you must register beforehand. You can do this at www.PrisonersWeekScotland.org.uk where the event can also be watched live online.
