Giving a Little of Ourselves
We were delighted to be invited to this year’s Islam Awareness Week Gala Dinner in Glasgow’s Central Mosque. Tracey Burns and her family represented Families Outside at the event and found it a really interesting evening with great food, interesting conversations, and a tour of the mosque.
The theme of Islam Awareness Week this year was giving, and guests were invited to think about giving of themselves to those around. We tend to value independence in our society, but guests were asked to think more about interdependence and what that means for how we live well together.
Islam Awareness Week is about helping people have a greater understanding of Islam and celebrating the unity and diversity of Muslim Scots as an integrated part of the Scottish community; it is about embracing and nurturing the community we live in to provide a safe and secure society for all of us and for future generations to come; and this year, it was about looking around and asking, “Where can I give of myself?” A good question for us all to ask!
