Don’t forget about me: the voices of children & young people affected by imprisonment
Join us on our social media platforms on Tuesday 30th August where we will be sharing helpful resources and starting conversations about children and young people affected by imprisonment. You will hear directly from young people about their experiences and have an opportunity to get involved by letting us know your thoughts and sharing key messages.
Imprisonment of a family member can have significant and enduring impacts for children and young people. With an estimated 20-27,000 children and young people experiencing imprisonment of a family member each year in Scotland, it is highly concerning that evidence suggests they are often forgotten and their voices unheard when a family member goes to prison.
As the only national charity working solely on behalf of families affected by imprisonment in Scotland, Families Outside is calling for more action to recognise the impacts of imprisonment on children and young people to help ensure they get the right support at the right time. We know that this can only be achieved through collective action, together we can start to make a difference.
