Children of Imprisoned Parents (EU report)

We are pleased to provide a download of the new report, Children of Imprisoned Parents. This is a valuable new report produced as a collaboration between Eurochips (the European Network for Children of Imprisoned Parents); the University of Ulster; Bambinisenzasbarre; and the Danish Institute for Human Rights.

The report summarises long-term research into the needs of and responses to children of prisoners in four European countries and is released to coincide with European Prisoners’ Children Week, taking place from 1 – 8 June 2011.  An associated report focusing on the mental health of prisoners’ children – the COPING project – will be available in 2013.

Particular points of note from the report are the call for compliance with the rights of children under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, of which all EU and Council of Europe Member States are signatories; and recommendation for the collection of information from police and prisons regarding the number and ages of children whose parents have been arrested and/or imprisoned.
