Families Outside and Street Sport BBQ
The middle of the Summer holidays and time for a fun day out with Families Outside and Streetsport in Aberdeen. So many of the children we work with do not have the money to go away or even manage a day trip in the Summer holidays. The parents that we work with struggle to feed their families in the school holidays when there are no breakfast clubs or free school lunches.
We were delighted to welcome 21 kids of all ages and 10 parents to the garden at the Aberlour Family Service in Aberdeen. The sun shone all day and the kids had a ball on the bouncy castle and took part in a whole load of activities such as hook the duck, coconut shy, egg and spoon and three legged races.
They had made friends and had so much fun whilst their parents were able to relax and chat to the other parents all going through the same experience as they are.
The BBQ was a real highlight and the kids and adults tucked into burgers and hotdogs – a first ever BBQ for some of the kids who came along. One of the young volunteers made some fantastic fruits kebabs which were very popular then everyone enjoyed an ice lolly to cool down!
Lots of happy faces and great feedback from the children and their parents. Big thanks to Children in Need for their funding for this much needed project!
